There are the various Research_stations_of_Antarctica, but there are also some peculiar big holes. Perhaps its a remnant of a volcanic fissure or some other type of natural portal. It would certainly make for a nice opening to some vast caverns. Such caverns could eventually be filled in with several well insulated levels forming a massive underground base complex. This could be a reason as to why the snow has melted around   the surface of these mountains. If even the surface area is warmed to 1 or 2 Celsius, the ice & snow would gradually melt, because of the warmer temperatures generated further underground. But such a thing is difficult to prove, so it remains as another one of the many anomalies that are open to interpretation.
